The FAQ was initially compiled by David Polak, continued by Nathan Torkington; the baton shifted to Nathan Hughes, and carried on assisted into HTML and to its erstwhile home on the Web by Stuart Bruce. Stuart Bruce left the newsgroup, so the FAQ was passed to Ben Brockert. Then Ben left the newsgroup, and noone else did anything much. Considerable additional work has been done by Owen "Nemo" Cameron (who's done the bibliography mostly on his own), Greg "CrazyOne?" Pacek, Andrew Williams, and others who deserve mention but who for sheer cheekiness's sake aren't going to get one.
However we will mention Richard Harris, Tim Browse and Yoz Grahame (and more) of The Digital Village for their attempts to keep us up to date. And we should at least faintly acknowledge everyone on alt.fan.douglas-adams who has assisted.
We would also like to thank M.J. Simpson, for kindly letting us use his "On this day…" document to assist with the Order of Everything.
Just for the hell of it, we might as well thank Douglas Adams, because this FAQ would be a bit pointless if he hadn't done anything with his life.
Since Ben's disappearance, the FAQ has been hosted, but not updated, by Iain M Barker. Several times, suggestions have been made in the newsfroup regarding possibly updating, although nothing has previously come of these.
But now, like a phoenix rising from the ashes, the FAQ has been reborn as a Wiki, enabling anyone and everyone to contribute to it. (And, as a bonus, absolving any one person from the responsibility of maintaining it.)
