Marvin the Paranoid Rock Star

Marvin the Paranoid Android, voiced by Stephen Moore, was a pop star in the UK in 1981. He not only released two singles, but he even appeared on Top Of The Pops, the BBC’s pop music programme. The first single, Marvin, reached the staggering position of #53 in the charts in May ‘81, and was in the top 75 for four weeks.

The Guinness book of Hit Singles describes him as “UK, Robot”.

There were two singles, the first being Marvin, with the B-side Metal Man. The follow-up was a ‘double B-side’ of Reasons to be Miserable and Marvin I Love You. They were released by Depressive Discs.

Reasons to be Miserable was a parody of Reasons to be Cheerful by Ian Dury and the Blockheads.

The soundtrack to the movie features a new version of Reasons to be Miserable, subtitled His Name is Marvin. It’s voiced by [[Stephen_Fry?]], and all the lyrics have been changed to third person, talking about Marvin rather than as Marvin.

The iTunes Music Store also has an ‘exclusive Marvin Mixes’ album, featuring the new version of Reasons to be Miserable plus six remixes, and a new version of Marvin.
